We selected the Merlin falcon because it is proud and majestic, poised and alert, swift and agile, a symbol of all students at Maui Waena Intermediate School.  Aspiring to emulate our namesake, the Maui Waena Falcons exude the noble qualities of pride, independence, and strength.  Like the Merlin, the Maui Waena Falcons are patient and observant, loyal and caring, ever aware of their contributions to the success of the school.  Maui Waena Falcons are good decision makers and will always choose to do the right thing no matter how hard it may be.  Maui Waena Falcons "Soar to Excellence!"
